Exciting news this morning! Kevin Loring won the Governor General's Award for Drama for his first play, Where the Blood Mixes! We workshopped and premiered the play two years ago and are putting together a tour next year, so this is a huge boost. And it couldn't have happened to a nicer guy. (On a personal note, he included me in his acknowledgements in the published version, so I feel like I have an infinitesimal part of a GG :D).

The play is gorgeous, one of the most moving pieces of theatre I've ever seen; funny and heartbreaking. There's one moment that devastates me even thinking about it. Anybody who lives in Victoria, Vancouver, Winnipeg, Ottawa, or Toronto should definitely see it when it comes through.

I'm so happy for him. It carries a fairly significant cash prize, which will help him set up his own company (and feed his family!).

And yay for the five theatre companies that took a chance on the tour and will hopefully get a publicity and sales boost!
